EEA and Norway Grants (Norway Funds)

Through the EEA and Norway Grants, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway contribute to reducing economic and social disparities in the European Economic Area (EEA) and to strengthening cooperation with fifteen European countries. The recipients of financial support are countries from Central, Eastern and Southern Europe. The Czech Republic is among the countries with an ever-increasing level of support. The great emphasis on sharing and exchanging experience between donors and grant recipients is an important aspect that distinguishes these funds from EU funds.

The EEA and Norway Grants support projects focused primarily on the areas of science and research, environmental protection, cultural heritage, public health, education, cooperation in the judiciary, transparency of public administration, development of civil society, etc. Bilateral projects and activities
(cooperation between Czech institutions with partners from Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) are also significantly supported. The environment of the grant system of the EEA and Norway Grants is highly competitive (viz see approve projects for the period 2014–2021).

The 3rd programming period 2014–2021 is gradually ending in 2023. Due in particular to the Covid-19 pandemic, the implementation of projects from the calls for proposals for the 2014–2021 programming period has been postponed until April 2024. The new programming period 2021+ is currently in the preparatory phase.

The national contact point for the EEA and Norway Grants and the main coordinator is the Ministry of Ministry of Finance of the Czech Republic.
