INTERREG VI-A, Cross-border Cooperation Program Czech Republic - Bavaria (BY-CZ)

European Commission program for the period 2021 - 2027 supporting bilateral Czech-Bavarian cooperation.

  • SUITABLE FOR ALL FACULTIES AND COMPONENTS (technical and humanities).
  • Subsidy area: Pilsen, Karlovy Vary and South Bohemian regions, in Germany it is the border part of Bavaria.
  • Projects usually three-year, min. budget 30,000 EUR, max. not specified (most often up to 1 million EUR).
  • Principle of lead partner and reimbursement of eligible costs paid.
  • Amount of subsidy: 80% from the EUSF plus 10% from the MRD of the Czech Republic. Co-financing from UWB resources in the amount of 10%.
  • Applicants: according to investment priority, in principle public and private institutions except companies/SMEs (a company or enterprise cannot be a partner with a budget).
  • Official official language: Czech and German (dual applications and monitoring).
  • Deadline for submitting applications: 2 times a year (usually January and August).

Four investment priorities:

  • Priority 1: Cross-border research.
  • Priority 2: Climate change adaptation and environmental protection.
  • Priority 3: Education.
  • Priority 4: Culture and sustainable tourism.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION/TIPS

Use at UWB: One of the most successful international programs at UWB. In the 1st wave (approved in 04/2023), 5 projects out of 10 submitted were approved. In the previous programming period 2016-2022, 43 projects were implemented with a total value of approx. EUR 30.3 million (approx. CZK 750 million).

Average subsidy amount: Average value of an approved project approx. EUR 800,000 (of which UWB budgets approx. EUR 360,000). In the previous period, UWB budgets averaged approx. EUR 230,000/project.

Administrative complexity: own online system JEMS, bilingual administration (Czech and Dutch)

Duration of the subsidy process: from application submission to approval approx. 4 months, subsequent documents (subsidy contracts) in approx. 3 months, receipt of subsidy approx. a year from submission of the monitoring report.

The European Commission program for the period 2021 – 2027 supporting bilateral Czech-Bavarian cooperation.

  • SUITABLE FOR ALL FACULTIES AND COMPONENTS (technical and humanities).
  • Subsidy area: Liberec, Ústí nad Labem and Karlovy Vary regions, in Germany the border part of Saxony. The project's benefit to the border area is important, then the applicant can also be from an area outside the subsidy area.
  • Projects usually three years, min. budget 30,000 EUR, max. not specified.
  • Principle of lead partner and reimbursement of eligible costs paid.
  • Amount of subsidy: 80% from the EUSF plus 10% from the MRD of the Czech Republic. Co-financing from UWB resources in the amount of 10%.
  • Applicants: according to investment priority, in principle public and private institutions including companies and SMEs
  • Official official language: Czech and German (dual applications and monitoring).
  • Deadline for submitting applications: usually twice a year (usually February and July).

PRACTICAL INFORMATION/TIPS

Utilization at UWB: less utilized due to location outside the subsidy area, only 3 projects so far.

Average subsidy amount: UWB budgets in the previous period averaged approximately EUR 160,000/project.

Administrative complexity: own forms, no JEMS, bilingual administration (Czech and Dutch)

Duration of the subsidy process: from application submission to approval approx. 5 months, subsequent documents (subsidy contracts) approx. 3 months, receipt of subsidy approx. a year from submission of the monitoring report.
