NATIONAL RECOVERY PLAN FOR HIGHER EDUCATION 2023–2025
UWB 2025: Towards a Sustainable University
Project Registration Number: NPO_ZCU_MSMT-2140/2024-4
Project Duration: 1 January 2024 – 31 December 2025
The aim of the UWB 2025: Towards a Sustainable University project is to initiate and support sustainability across various levels of the university. A key objective of the project is the development of a Sustainability Strategy, aimed at positioning the UWB as a sustainably operating institution that provides education in the field of sustainability. To educate future generations on sustainability, the project also implements range of additional activities.
One such activity is the development of the study program Environmental Engineering and Technology under the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. The program is designed to train future professionals capable of effectively addressing the complex challenges related to industrial production, products, and their impact on the environment, society, and resources. The program’s focus directly corresponds to the societal need to achieve long-term ecological and social sustainability goals within business management.
Other project activities include the development of lifelong learning courses and the creation or innovation of courses within existing study programs. Within the project, three lifelong learning courses will be developed at selected faculties of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. These courses will align with the 2022 recommendation of the European Council on micro-credentials and will also focus on upskilling, helping individuals acquire new skills or enhance existing ones, enabling them to obtain qualifications necessary for successful employment in a changing labour market.
Finally, UWB aims to be a strong partner promoting sustainability in the regional context and intends to deepen and further expand existing cooperation with the Pilsen Region, focusing on aspects of sustainable development and the green transformation of the region.
The project is funded by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports under the National Recovery Plan Operational Programme NPO 7.4 – Adaptation of Educational Programs – Support for Green Skills and Sustainability in Higher Education for the years 2023–2025.
